AYAC supports funding commitment to Close the Gap and new initiatives for students with a disability

AYAC congratulates the Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, the Hon Peter Garrett on recent announcements for a new advisory group on school students with disability and a commitment of $30 million dollars in funding to help more schools close the gap.

AYAC believes clear action is needed to support and enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to access and achieve a good education.

AYAC has been consulting with young people with a disability across Australia throughout the year and the results show that much greater support is urgently needed for students with disabilities across the whole Australian education system.

The move by the government to put in place mechanisms to support improvements for students with a disability and it's commitment of funding to close the gap is welcomed by AYAC. We look forward to continue working with the government in these areas.
