AYAC is currently in an establishment phase and has limited capacity to consult with young people to see what they think of an issue or to determine how they might be affected by it. We are thus currently unable to provide substantive comment on most policy issues, even though these may appear to be significant to young Australians.

AYAC and its members, do believe, however, that there is a clear, demonstrated, need for a fully funded and functional national youth affairs peak to provide a strong, independent voice on issues of importance to young Australians, and we are available to make comments on this topic.

Additionally, AYAC is able to refer journalists to members of our National Representative Council with expertise and experience in specific issues for comment. Naturally, these organisations do not speak on AYAC's behalf.
